G2A News / Previews / Dawn of War III – Everything you should know before the release
The next chapter in the Dawn of War series is releasing really soon and we collected all the important information for all of you waiting for a bit of WAAAGH!
If you wondered, which races are available, what’s there for you in the campaign or what features are offered in the multiplayer, take a look:
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, once again developed by Relic Entertainment, is set to release on April 27th. As with all parts of this series, it’s a PC exclusive title and you can get the game in retail and digitally. You’ll need a Steam account to register your game and use its online features.
There’s no trial or demo version while we are publishing this article and neither was there any hint of any plans to launch one. There was a closed beta with access limited to only selected users, with short open beta offered only for people, who registered their e-mails.
While in previous games you were limited only to Space Marines or were encouraged to try many various races of Warhammer 40,000 universe, this time you’ll play a narrated campaign with missions for Space Marines, Orks and Eldars interlacing each other.
Space Marines, fanatic, genetically engineered warriors, are making a return, with their well-recognizable armors, weapons and equipment. They are a deadly force even in small numbers, surprising enemies with support drops form the orbit. Once again they are led by Gabriel Angelos, now the Master of the Blood Ravens chapter of Space Marines.
Orks dominate the galaxy as The Waaagh! – a horde organized into a warband with its Warboss. Their focus is simple: to kill enemies and gather loot to become stronger. Gorgutz ‘Ead’unter is one of their leaders and you should remember him if you played the expansions for the original Dawn of War.
Eldar are the remnants of a once-powerful civilization. You’ll easily recognize them by their looks, but also advanced weaponry and unique psychic abilities. They treat other races as being no better than insects and try to purge the galaxy while looking for any means to regain their reign.
The single player part of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III contains seventeen story missions, during which you’ll lead the armies of each race – that means you’ll be circling through those factions, probably with one mission for each and then repeating the cycle. All three join a fight for mysterious artifact known as the Spear of Khaine. Ultimately, all three factions will clash in this struggle for power.
Base building is making a return after being totally absent in Dawn of War II. A new element to the gameplay is the addition of elite units like Imperial Knights for the Space Marines, Gorkanauts for Orks and Wraithknights for Eldar. Once again you will be able to build huge armies and strategically decide what their strengths will be. Each race has its own super powers as well, including the Eldar’s Eldritch Storm or Space Marines’ Orbital Bombardment.
The campaign serves as a form of introduction to various strategies used by the three races of Dawn of War III. When you are prepared, you can join the online play. Various modes and several maps will be available at launch. The interesting thing is the fact that each player will choose three elite units before each match. Everyone will need to focus on gathering resources and preparing their base before it will be possible to summon those special units. Other modifications like Army Doctrines will be at your disposal, allowing you to further modify each faction. Oh, and there’s an Army Painter, so fear not – a lot of customization will be there!
Everyone, who preorders the game, will receive Masters of War skin pack that includes the following looks: Dark Queen Solaria, Ghost Seer Taldeer and Big Kustom Morkanaut. You can get a better look thanks to this video:
